Biodiversity assessments using DNA Metabarcoding – Applications in Forensic Entomology

28.04.2018 – 9:00am – SNSB, Bavarian State Collection of Zoology – Münchhausenstrasse 21, 81247 München

The SNSB, Bavarian State Collection of Zoology offers an introduction to the metabarcoding workflow within the German Barcode of Life (GBOL) and Barcoding Fauna Bavarica (BFB) campaigns. The projects aim to assemble a DNA barcode reference library for all animal species reported from Germany – at the present time approximately 20.000 species (ca. 50% of the German fauna) have been successfully implemented. The reference library is now ready for applications such as fast species identification using Metabarcoding of bulk samples containing thousands of specimens within short time. This workshop gives an introduction to the labwork, the handling of the bioinformatic data and the identification of species using BOLD (Barcode of Life database) and Genbank, using bulk samples collected during a succession experiment of two pigs.
